外文摘要：This article deals with the result of the masterpiece ' Mill on the Floss' written by George Eliot and the decisive factors which lead to the tragic ending of the heroine. It is the inextricable consanguinity fetter that causes Maggie, the heroine's death. It is also partly due to the parochial and one - sided view of the lofty moral ideal unflaggingly pursued by Maggie. Maggie' s death is an indispensable part of a complete traditional tragedy.
