中文摘要：应用型大学是一个笼统的概念,包括各种致力于不同种类不同层次应用型人才培养的大学。这些大学有一个共同的特征,那就是追求学以致用,而不是学以致知。学以致用是一种实用主义的学术观,但不等于低水平倾向的学术观,更不能归为功利主义的学术观。从这一点出发,应用型大学就不只是政府推动高等教育类型多元化的一种应对策略,仅仅成为我国新建本科院校转型的方向,而是基于高等教育变革与发展的内在需求,同样成为众多高水平研究型大学尤其行业特色大学发展的方向。可见,应用型大学不是低层次高校的代名词,只是彰显了应用取向的学术观。

外文摘要：Applied university is a general concept, including various kinds of universities which are devoted to cultivating different types and levels of applied talents. Instead of learning knowledge, seeking to apply knowledge is the common feature of these universities. Learning for practice is a pragmatic academic view which is unequal to the oneseeing it as low-level learning, andeven cannot be classified as a utilitarian academic view. From this point of view, applied university is not only a governmental solution to promote higher education diversification and the direction of China newly-built universities transformation, but also derived from the internal need which based on the change and development of higher education as well as the direction of the progress of the high-level research universities especially the industry-based universities. It is obvious that applied university is only to express the applied tendency academic view rather than the pronoun of the low-level colleges and universities.
