外文摘要：Using a fixed-effects model and data of 19 city clusters in China from 2010 to 2019, this paper empirically analyses the impact of the spatial functional division of labour of city clusters on the carbon emissions of central and peripheral cities. The results show that (1) the spatial functional division of labour in urban agglomerations is conducive to achieving carbon emission reduction in central cities but it exacerbates carbon emissions in peripheral cities. (2) Technological progress partially mediates the carbon emission reduction effect of the spatial division of functions in city clusters in central cities, and manufacturing agglomeration partially mediates the carbon exacerbation effect of the spatial division of functions in city clusters in peripheral cities. (3) For central cities, industrial synergistic agglomeration and the digital economy can enhance the carbon emission reduction effect of the spatial functional division of labour in city clusters; for peripheral cities, industrial synergistic agglomeration can alleviate the increased carbon emissions effect of the spatial functional division of labour in city clusters. (4) The impact of the spatial division of labour on carbon emissions in city clusters is regionally heterogeneous. The findings of this paper are useful for government departments to formulate public policies that balance economic development and carbon emissions in the context of deepening the spatial division of labour in urban agglomerations. ? 2023, The Authors.
