外文摘要：Cultivating an English learner's writing ability is one of the teaching reform goals by the Ministry of Education in China. Yet college English teachers do not give their students a lot of writing assignments because traditional essay scoring takes up too much of the teachers' time. To solve this problem, the School of Foreign Languages of Shaoxing University has developed a web-based writing platform with an automated scoring system that goes together with a teacher's scoring. It has increased the quantity of the student's essay writing practice and thus improved their writing ability.
