中文摘要：本文以系统功能语法为理论框架 ,选择 VOA广播新闻的首句作为研究对象 ,通过首句与整个语篇在语义上的比较 ,考察了它们在语篇中的功能——统领全文的核心句 ;在此基础上 ,描述了 VOA新闻语篇的结构并分析了新闻首句所传递的信息以及这些信息的分布情况 ,验证了新闻的写作原则 (5 W和 1H)的合理性。

外文摘要：This paper aims to examine the first sentences of VOA news items in the light of the Systemic Functional Grammar with special reference to their textual function and linguistic features. By comparing the news items and their first sentences in terms of message content, we find that the first sentence each constitutes the nucleus of the whole news, providing such important information as can answer questions beginning with who, what, when, where, why and how, thus confirming the reasonable requirements of news writing. On the basis of this analysis, the schematic structure of news items is revealed.
